The Youth and Family Research Program (https://yfrp.pitt.edu) seeks to be an inclusive, affirming, and safe space for all staff and participants. We conduct high quality research with the goal of reducing health inequities in substance use problems. Within this context, we examine systemic racism and discrimination experiences in conjunction with individual factors that may contribute to substance use risk. The Research Specialist will be involved in novel research through interacting with participants during semi-structured diagnostic interviews, lab-based tasks and questionnaires, and during a smartphone-based portion of the study. This individual will be part of a collaborative research team and will attend lab meetings, collaborate with multiple faculty members, and have opportunities to grow research skills and interests.
This position is grant funded.
Purpose:
Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s). Collect and gather research data through multiple methods for a study examining social and structural determinants of inequities in cannabis and alcohol problems. Contribute to enhancing the culture of a vibrant research lab that consists of 5 faculty members, 15 staff members, and multiple ongoing studies.
Responsibilities:
- Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews, lab-based tasks, and smart-phone based surveys.
- Collaborate with team members regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, and reports according to the needs of the study.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology or related research field.
- Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
- Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
- Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
- Understanding of the socio-historically based structural discrimination that affect people of color preferred.
- Knowledge of stigma and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community preferred.
- Familiarity with research on implicit bias preferred.

- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
