Description

We are hiring a flexible, full-time Lead Server Assistant for our UPMC Headquarters Kitchen.  If you are someone with full-service dining or catering experience, then this could be the perfect position for you!

This position primarily works between 6:30am-2:30pm, Monday through Thursday, at the US Steel Tower.  Fridays, evenings and weekends are less frequent, but scheduled according to business levels within the department.  

The Lead Sever Assistant provides professional level service to the department and event attendees. They are responsible for set-up, service and clean-up of all assigned meetings, functions and events.   They have the ability to prioritize and appropriately handle all catering requests, in a professional, pleasant and congenial manner, and effectively communicate with their manager to assure that all requests are handled completely, accurately and timely.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively contribute excellence in service to the operations of the Business and Corporate Events team.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen, and observe all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Effectively maintain a professional atmosphere with all levels of faculty, staff, peers and visitors.
  • Demonstrates: personal responsibility to ensure 100% accuracy in every aspect of the job; a take charge attitude to ensure all assignments are executed completely and accurately; and responsibility in punctuality.
  • Maintain neat and professional appearance by wearing a clean uniform at all times.
  • At all times, act in a professional manner and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with all levels of staff and with outside contacts to ensure all requests are handled expeditiously and accurately.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ensure delivery, set and clean-up of all catered activities on multiple floors throughout the building.
  • Supervisor is informed of any problems that may arise in the day to day operation of the kitchen.
  • Carries out job duties in a manner that is consistent with the service management vision of UPMC which includes the demonstration of appropriate behavior toward management, staff, peers and visitors.
  • Meet and discuss with the manager the expectations of the kitchen operations; disseminate this information to all support staff and assure that events occur appropriately.
  • Responsible for executing the set-up, service, and clean-up of all catered functions and requests with limited supervision.
  • Ensure all equipment, linens, service ware, and glassware are clean and sanitized prior to use.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two years work experience in either a catering or restaurant setting is required.
  • Ability to work and exercise sound judgment when completing tasks.
  • Good organizational and communication skills necessary.
  • Good command of the English language, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Punctuality required.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or similar processes
