Purpose:
Provide management and oversight of hospital-based Peripheral Vascular Department. Perform noninvasive peripheral vascular studies including (but not restricted to) arterial and venous duplex imaging with color flow Doppler, noninvasive arterial testing (pulse volume recordings/segmental limb pressures), visceral abdominal duplex imaging with color flow Doppler, extracranial duplex imaging with color flow Doppler and other complex noninvasive vascular exams. Available for overtime and assistance in other areas as necessary. Provide leadership for other technologists and be a representative to the hospital and outside PV organizations.
This position will work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. including on call rotation.
$6,000 sign on bonus with a 2 year commitment for new hires.
Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the Program director and Human Resources staff in the interviewing of staff candidates, personnel behavioral and disciplinary issues and in the evaluation of staff performance
- Able to perform PV Tech I and II duties, will participate in exam completion as dictated by patient volumes.
- Continuously conduct service analysis to identify, develop and implement key strategies which are designed to align the organization to better deliver services, respond to patient needs, manage resources, and achieve established goals. Support CQI initiatives for the department
- Maintain timekeeping in Kronos and assist Program director in MRS updates.
- Take action to investigate and remedy complaints arising from within the staff, physicians, and/or other departments or health care teams. Investigate and resolve intra-departmental co-worker conflicts. Investigate and remedy patient complaints received through Patient Relations or reported from other various sources.
- Work with the Program Director to conduct appropriate corrective action as defined by UPMC system-wide policy, with professional staff who have demonstrated non-compliance with performance expectations, including but not limited to time and attendance, clinical practice issues and other procedural or policy violations.
- Assist Program Director in the management of performance and productivity standards for the department. Meet budget expense goals and assist Program Director in the development of capital and operating budget.
- Provide staff development opportunities and encourage to engage in educational and professionally challenging activities.
- Provide effective leadership by establishing collaborative relationships at all internal and external levels for the benefit of the department. Mentor both professional and administrative staff members to compassionately interact with patients, physicians and fellow co-workers.
- Organize, direct and monitor the daily operations of the Peripheral Vascular (PV) department and staff responsibilities through the appropriate delegation of duties to ensure service excellence quality to patients and physicians.
- Provide mechanisms for participation by the staff in identifying areas for improvement, plan quality improvement initiatives, develop policies and programs for clinical, educational, and research endeavors for the PV department. Ensure that a high quality, comprehensive orientation and clinical instruction is provided for any PV students
Qualifications
- Completion of formal training in an accredited Vascular Technology or Ultrasound program required or RVT or equivalent credential required.
- Competency in all areas of non-invasive vascular testing.
- Knowledge of vascular anatomy in order to provide physicians with preliminary test interpretations, to recommend vascular testing and to scan appropriate vessels.
- Knowledge of Doppler and ultrasound physics when performing vascular exams.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a PV technologist is required Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist OR Registered Vascular Technologist
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
