UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

The Garage Technician will diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of motor truck and bus equipment including, but not limited to the following: Engines (gas and diesel), Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials/Power dividers, PTO systems, Starters/Alternators, Refrigeration systems, Air conditioning systems (including cold and hot units), Fan clutches, Engine electronics (gas/diesel), Power steering systems, and Steering gear box (manual and power). This full-time position works M-F from 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. 

Responsibilities:

  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order
  • Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • The ability to stand or be in awkward or unusual positions for lengths of time.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
  • Understands that shifts and start times can change or vary based on the needs of the operation.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A Technician with a minimum of two (2) years practical experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • A Garage Technician should have specialized training and experience/knowledge and understanding of theory and concept of major components (i.e. engines, transmissions, etc.)
  • Be proficient in the use of all tools of the trade (Welding, power tools and shop machinery).


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Driver's License
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
