UPMC McKeesport is currently recruiting casual Patient Care Technicians to join our nursing support staff! In the Resource Unit, you will float to assist other units as needed. This is a wonderful way to be immersed in patient care while seeing a variety of different specialties. A 7-day training class held on weekdays (8am-4pm) is required for those without experience. Shifts/Hours: To maintain a casual status, you would be required to work approximately 8 hours every two weeks, with the opportunity to work additional hours over holiday and summer breaks!
What is a Patient Care Technician?
Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are essential partners in our mission, enhancing the patient experience at UPMC with positivity and integrity. They work on patient care units and perform a variety of important basic and advanced skills. They work closely and continuously with patients, partnering with the nurses and other professionals, to make a big difference in how patients recover and experience their hospital stay. Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- If no previous hospital or pre-hospital training, successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class OR successful completion of EIC training program OR successful completion of first year of clinical work in a nursing program
- Successful completion of basic information system training. Microcomputer experience preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
- Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34
