UPMC Shadyside is hiring a full-time Unit Director to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center team!
As the Unit Director, you would be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. You would coordinate all aspects of the facility while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations to provide the highest quality patient care. You ensure that the ASC provides an outstanding experience for our patients and drives a healthy workplace culture for our employees. This role is critically important to the success of the department.
The UPMC Shadyside Ambulatory Surgery Center is a multi-specialty surgery center that proudly provides care to patients in the Pittsburgh area and the surrounding community. We provide a range of perioperative services, including ophthalmology, orthopedics, women’s surgical services, plastic surgery, and general surgery. The Ambulatory Surgery Center operates Monday through Friday during daylight hours.
Responsibilities
- Monitors department operations and reviews daily productivity
- Manages the departmental operational budget
- Ensures all policies, procedures, and protocols are current with regulatory guidelines
- Responds to critical situations involving patients, staff, and/or visitors and implements viable solutions
- Prioritizes and structures effective and timely solutions to complex problems
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration amongst all members of the care team to support patient throughput and optimal patient outcomes.
- Designs and maintains measures for continuous improvement in the department
- Leads and develops all Clinicians that report directly to them to build strong leadership and communication skills, as well as mentorship in daily leadership responsibilities. Supports Clinician(s) in their role of oversight of direct reports, including difficult conversations, performance reviews, and recruitment.
- Sets high standards of performance for self and others by imposing standards of excellence and development of inquiry skills that are innovative, optimistic, and supportive of professional growth.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience required with relevant clinical experience preferred.
- BS/BSN required at time of hire and Master's degree/MSN required. If a BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required. If a Master's degree is not in nursing, a BSN is required. If the Master's degree/MSN is not present at the time of hire, must be enrolled in a Master's or MSN program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment.
- Surgical experience (PACU, Pre-Op, OR) STRONGLY preferred.
- Analytical ability necessary to evaluate staff, address and improve clinical issues and devise solutions to complex problems.
- Leadership ability to develop staff, establish and maintain standards of performance within a national context for professional nursing practice and comply with administrative requirements.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to effectively create relationships to support a healing environment with patients, families, staff, physicians, and hospital personnel including senior management in both written and verbal communication.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in a practicing state.
