The Medical Equipment IT Enterprise Engineer (MEITEE), performs complex repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on network connected clinical medical devices used throughout the UPMC Enterprise, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc. The MEITEE relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. The role provides orientation, training, auditing and technical phone support to all other levels of BioTronics service engineers and facility equipment operators. The MEITEE reports to the Senior Program Director and is responsible for leading/developing BioTronics Medical Equipment IT Team. This position works full-time during daylight hours with limited work from home availabilty and will be traveling to various UPMC locations as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Able to supervise all levels of technical staff if required. Conduct annual performance evaluations on BMET staff as indicated by director. Assess manufacturers certified training and assist in the coordination of staff participation.
  • Develop technical cross training course(s) regarding IT based maintenance for all levels of technical staff. Maintain a broad working knowledge of most types of medical equipment and stay abreast of new technologies.
  • Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Kronos system. Provides equipment advisement and technical hands on, remote, and phone support related to all technical and clinical staff levels.
  • Required to provide technical audits of all medical IT staff members as requested. Provide advanced equipment application support to equipment operators as required.
  • Provides project management support for system procurement activities, security review, installation, and integration initiatives. Maintains data privacy and security of computer based networked medical devices where applicable.
  • Participates in on-call rotation and scheduling as indicated by director. Routinely perform service, scheduled maintenance, inspection and repair of Low, Medium, High and Specialty priority medical device IT components inclusive of servers, workstations, and software applications.
  • Understand, operate and provide training on all standard and/or specialty test equipment. Understand, implement and provide training on specific regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in on-call rotation and scheduling as indicated by director. Travel between UPMC Enterprise sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc is required as needed. Use of personal vehicle may be required.
  • Travel outside the continental USA and surrounding tri-states may be required.
  • Priority Class 'High' Equipment includes but is not limited to: ESU, ventricular assist devices, nursery incubators, pacemakers, thermocyclers, spectrophotometer, portable bypass system, injectors, muse system, defibrillator, ultrasound (diagnostic), x-ray imagers, x-ray portables, x-ray processors, x-ray tables, x-ray TV systems, Cranes-Buckys, scope sterilizers, washer decontaminators, cart washers, orthopedic specialty instruments, servers and gateways.
  • Priority Class 'Specialty' Equipment: Nuclear camera, CT scanners, cath lab systems, dialysis, anesthesia, ventilators, sterilizers (steam and ETO), gas plasma sterilizers, tunnel washer, lasers, MRI, linear accelerator, perfusion equipment, surgical endoscope repair, system installations and relocations, diagnostic software support, clinical application and mapping systems.
  • Priority Class 'Low' Equipment includes but is not limited to: Lab equipment, physical therapy equipment, saws, dental equipment, compressors, and general patient care equipment, arthroscopy instruments, standard scissors, forceps, retractors, elevators, ortho curettes, osteotomes, chisels, bone cutters, printer and PC peripherals. Priority Class `Medium Equipment includes but is not limited to: Patient monitoring systems, video equipment, warmers (blood and fluid), scope washers, lab equipment (analyzers), oximeters, infusion devices, diagnostic test equipment (pulmonary), NIBP units, humidifiers, oxygen equipment (respiratory), nerve/muscle stimulator, Doppler, computer work stations, pumps, tourniquets, SCD, hypothermia, EKG machines, ultrasound (PT), OR tables, OR lights and sonics, rongeurs, needle holders, general imaging/radiology equipment.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical/Electrical/Computer/ IT Information Technology, BMET Apprenticeship Certification or Journeyman papers (if applicable) is required.
    • Equivalent military experience and/or equivalent hospital or manufacturers service experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Eight years of hospital or manufacturers service experience.
  • Manufacturers Certification of four priority types of Specialty equipment.
  • Superior knowledge of information systems, networking, computer, and storage hardware.
  • Superior knowledge of DICOM, HL7, IT based medical systems operations.
  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft server and desktop operating systems, and networking communications.
  • Superior knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, physics, chemistry, optics, pneumatics, hydraulics, hospital structure and regulatory requirements (as applicable).
  • Superior Computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System, and common office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medications is allowed.

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
