Associate Chaplain - Casual Status
Will be required to work all shifts, Weekends and Holidays
Purpose:
The Associate Chaplain serves as a full member of the pastoral/spiritual care team and provides for the spiritual needs of the patients/families and staff as designated by the director and in keeping with their own competencies and professional education. The role of the Associate Chaplain is distinct from the role of the chaplain in that the chaplain's CPE training and certification by a recognized accrediting agency enables him/her to minister in a far more in-depth way than the associate's training allows.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in Interdisciplinary Plan of Care conferences.
- Coordinates contacting patients' clergy if requested.
- Assists the director and chaplains with various administrative tasks
- Collaborates in planning various liturgical programs with the Director of Pastoral Care and chaplains.
- Wears identification badge in accordance with Hospital policy.
- Participates in call rotation.
- Meets continuing education requirements as outlined by the department.
- Supports the Hospital chaplain's ministry of spiritual care to patients by:Completing visitation assignments and communicating the services available through the pastoral care departmentScreening patients', families', and staff's needs; communicating with chaplains if a patient/family/staff wish to meet with the chaplains
- Completes annual goals and objectives with the director, meeting with director on regular basis to discuss progress on goals and objectives.
- Charts visits to patients.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree Required. Major in Pastoral Ministry, Theology, or related field is preferred.Completion of a minimum of 1 unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) preferred. Candidate must have a 1 unit CPE within one year of hire date.A minimum of 1 year of hospital/healthcare-related experience preferred. Personal and Professional RequirementsEndorsement from a recognized ecclesial body (church)Good people/communication skillsGood physical and emotional healthAbility and stamina to minister to patients with various physical and emotional disabilitiesFlexibility regarding work hoursAbility and desire to work with professional clergy of varying faith backgroundsAbility and desire to work within the context of team approach to ministrySkilled in the use of personal computers and related software
