Description
Purpose:
Direct all Housekeeping/Environmental Services functions and related facilities. Plan, organize, execute, and monitor all activities of Environmental Support Services so as to maintain the highest possible sanitary standards and positive public relations, by creating a clean, attractive and safe environment for patients, employees and visitors.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with state, federal and other regulatory requirements and guidelines.
- Prepare operational and capital budgets for the department as well as monthly and annual financial reports, as required.
- Direct and oversee all Environmental Services functions and related facilities.
- Compile and submit all reports pertaining to the regulated medical waste and waste management program as required by regulation.
- Develop, implement and revise departmental policies and procedures.
- Evaluate, select, inventory and procure the necessary supplies, equipment, etc., in order to effectively carry out the department's functions.
- Investigate and respond to complaints as necessary and take appropriate action to correct problems.
- Plan and monitor work performed by outside contractors to ensure that the work is completed properly, on schedule, and meets required standards.
- Design and develop jobs and assignments for housekeeping, meeting set-ups, waste management, and clerical functions with consideration of the size and physical layout of the facility and task frequencies required.
- Design, implement and/or manage hospital and department Continuous Quality Improvement and quality assessment systems to ensure the effectiveness of all functions of the department.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to optimize department efficiency.
- Incorporate PAM initiatives into department functions in a timely manner.
- Serve on committees as outlined in the Administrative Policies and Procedures, i.e. Infection Control Committee, Environmental Safety Committee, Environmental Services Product Acquisition and Management Committee (System-Wide), and UPMC Management Forum.
- Provide follow up on all incidents of improper waste disposal by written documentation and in conjunction with Safety Manager of hospital.
- Oversee the quality of all functions rendered by the Environmental Services Department to ensure customer satisfaction, infection control and cleanliness standards are met and/or exceeded.
- Direct record-keeping functions to assure timely and accurate financial and personnel reports.
- Consult with Administration and management peers regarding the functions of the department in their areas of responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Ensure that the department provides timely response to service requests so that quality is maintained throughout all facilities.
- Develop, review and revise the departmental organization structure to ensure maximum effectiveness.
- Keep abreast of information regarding laws and regulations governing the disposal of bio-hazardous and chemotherapeutic waste.
- Monitor the department's responsibilities regarding the transport and disposal of infectious and solid waste.
- Oversee personnel practices including recruitment, orientation, training, retention and performance management of staff within the department according to departmental and hospital policy.
- Communicate with staff to keep them abreast of policy changes, new procedures, standards of performance, and departmental/UPMC activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required
- 5 years relevant EVS or hotel experience preferred
- 4 years relevant leadership experience required
- Experience in Environmental Services in a Health Care or hotel setting preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and management skills.
- Strong analytical, execution and customer service skills required.
OR Equivalent combination of education/experience
- HS Diploma/GED Required
- 7 relevant EVS or hotel experience preferred
- 6 years relevant leadership experience required
- Experience in Environmental Services in a Health Care or hotel setting preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and management skills.
- Strong analytical, execution and customer service skills required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CHESP (Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional) Certification preferred.
