Description
UPMC Mercy is hiring a Recreational Therapist to support Primarily the 6E Brain Injury Rehab Unit, with some cross coverage to the 7E Spinal Cord Rehab Unit.
This role can work 5 8-hour days or 4 10-hour days with some weekend requirements.
Purpose:
- Develop and provide a wide variety or recreational therapy services designed to meet the needs of patients and families to maximize social, emotional, cognitive and physical functioning to facilitate the attainment of an appropriate leisure lifestyle.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement group activities, leisure skills education and community re-entry programs as appropriate.
- Complete necessary charge information to accurately reflect services rendered to patient.
- Communicate patient status to referring physician.
- Participate in professional growth and development related to the mission and activities of the organization.
- Develop plan of care, including goals and treatment in accordance with the physician referral, nature and severity of the injury/illness, and results of the recreation therapy assessment.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Order and maintain inventory levels of program materials and supplies. Maintain files and records.
- Maintain written documentation of recreation therapy services rendered including documentation of initial assessment, follow-up visits and discharge summary consistent with organizational standards.
- Modify and adjust plan of care based on patient response to treatment and/or changes in their medical status.
- Achieve and maintain a level of productivity which meets or exceeds the standards established for the facility by the organization.
- Perform recreational therapy assessment, re-assessment, and treatment to provide treatment for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by physicians to the department.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, patient rounds, and educational in-service programs as requested.
- Provide verbal and/or written home instructions to patients and/or family members when applicable.
- Serve as a clinical instructor for students of recreation therapy.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation.
- Knowledge and skills required to provide quality customer service.
- Knowledge of normal human growth and development over the lifespan.
- Ability to read, understand, analyze, and interpret medical record documents.
- Skilled in planning/organization, follow up/control, delegation, problem-solving, self-development orientation, organizational behaviors/competencies, and stress tolerance.
- Ability to apply principles of logic and strategic thinking to a wide range of problems, and to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to identify referral growth opportunities.
- Ability to interact with the healthcare team, coworkers, supervisors, and all members of the Corporate Management Team.
- Active participation with health care industry professional organizations is preferred.
- Complete all mandatory competencies for system, CRS business unit and/or facility.Complete CRS Orientation, Facility-specific Orientation, and Department Specific Orientation(s) where appropriate.
