Sr. Director of Activation Planning

Description

UPMC International is actively looking for a Sr. Director, Activation Planning.  In this key leadership role you will develop and manage the operational activation plans for opening new hospitals, ambulatory centers and/or clinics globally, including construction, renovation and building utilization and optimization.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts in a key leadership role to develop and manage the operational activation plans for opening a new hospital, ambulatory center and/or clinic including construction, renovation and building utilization and optimization.
  • Ensures accountability and timely completion of key milestones and deliverables, meets business objectives, design specifications and quality standards, and builds follow-up mechanism/maintenance plans into project deliverables to ensure solution sustainability.
  • Clearl coordination and delegation of project management with existing workstream leaders.
  • Partners closely with UPMC-appointed C-Suite executives to coordinate hospital activation, ensuring a smooth transition to the hospital management & operational team post-opening.
  • Mentors and collaborates with the China-based UPMC appointed Deputy General Managers for each project, ensuring they understand UPMC Hospital activation protocol as well as applying lessons learned from China-based activations.
  • Coordinates resources in Pittsburgh and other UPMC operations to meet the contractual deliverables for China projects.
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) including impact assessments of UPMC's resources, interventions and adjustment of recommendations and programs based on these ongoing assessments to ensure project goals are accomplished.
  • Proactive identifies risk and proposes risk mitigation strategies for implementation.
  • Prioritizes tasks based on relative importance and urgency and identifies dependencies across projects. Recognizes and acts decisively in urgent matters; makes tough decisions which may influence the direction of the project. Directs and executes creative analytic approaches/creates new or adapts existing analytical methods and tools to solve problems.
  • Anticipates key business and project issues, assesses alternatives, and take appropriate measures to resolve in a professional, tactful manner, implementing comprehensive recommendations to achieve desired outcome.
  • Builds follow up mechanism/maintenance plan into project deliverables to ensure that changes to be implemented will be sustainable. Ensures business value has been delivered.
  • Tracks progress on all project related milestones, provide executive team with regular updates and proposed corrective action in case there is risk of missing a deliverable.
  • Monitors and analyzes project performance, including schedule and volume metrics.
  • Develops and provides leadership to Transition Teams to achieve a successful launch of the new hospital.
  • Demonstrates ability to prepare sensitive information and communicates it directly to senior management. Plans and executes communication of complex information to team members and stakeholder groups. Dynamically leads presentations/work session to positively influence decisions and perceptions.
  • Understands, analyzes, and structures complex and politically sensitive business and strategic requirements to design achievable projects/programs that generate maximum business value.
  • Summarizes and presents project updates to the International Executive Management Group (IEMG).
  • Manages project communications including both internal UPMC calls as well as joint calls with external partners and other stakeholders to ensure well thought out, efficient, and well attended meetings.
  • Coordinates with leadership to ensure compliance for operational policies, procedures and overall initiatives are met.
  • Mentors and coaches junior staff.
  • Identifies international process and quality improvement opportunities to better the mission of UPMC and UPMC International.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Business, Healthcare, or related professional degree with a minimum of 8 years of project management experience; OR Master's degree Business Administration or Healthcare Administration with a minimum of 5 years of project management experience required.

Broad and deep operational experience in the activation of hospitals, or complex large-scaled projects is required.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cross functionally with physicians, staff, CEO, CFO, corporate, hospital administration, construction, facilities maintenance/operations and other senior leadership.

Strong organizational skills and Staff management experience in leading and developing teams, as well as providing timely and accurate feedback is required.

Excellent computer skills required, including Access, Excel, Microsoft Project, and other pertinent computer software packages.

This position requires excellent Project Management skills along with effective planning and organizational skills. This person must have the ability to perform planning for large, complex initiatives/projects, and to deliver top caliber project management services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
