Description

The Director of Finance / Accounting (“the Director”) has ownership of the preparation and presentation of financial results to stakeholders for the Physician Investment of UPMC Central PA (“PI”). This position oversees the departmental functions that serve financial accounting needs and will administer such functions as general ledger accounting and reporting paying specific attention to accounts receivable and contractual allowance reporting. Additionally, the position will be responsible for the direction of variance analytics, productivity/opportunity, and statistical reports for PI. This position will manage and direct the Manager, Accounting and Manager, Accounting and Financials and provide guidance for the successful and timely completion of assignments and projects by the PI accounting and finance team. To successfully perform the role the Director must have a solid understanding of GAAP, FP&A, as well as overall strategic direction of the PI product portfolio. Furthermore, the position requires the ability to articulate financial results to internal and external audiences, implement process improvement solutions, and track and monitor progress of functions.

Responsibilities:

 

  •  The Director must be thoroughly familiar with generally accepted accounting principles and their practical application in order to ensure that sound principles and practices are followed.

    • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of interim financial statements for corps within PI, which are made up of approximately 200 practices and growing.

    • Assist the Senior Director, Accounting and Finance, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer of PHMG, and Service Line VP's, in the analysis and presentation of periodic financial statements.  Presentation may be made to Management or to various Boards or Committees.

    • Budget: Direct and supervise the budget and financial planning in support of goals and objectives by providing strategic direction and procedural guidance by: Developing and monitoring budget targets and expectations with senior management and product leads Facilitating all interactions with the key department leaders and all related review meetings involving Senior leadership

    • Interaction with Information Services personnel regarding the planning and functioning of financial systems used to administer basic financial accounting functions. 

    • Interaction with Human Resources to keep abreast of compensation and benefit changes and issues requiring the input of Financial Operations. 

    •Implement and maintain a Sarbanes Oxley (404) control environment that is sustainable and effective that is tested by independent auditors.

    •Coordinate System requirements for the annual audit for PI conducted by the independent auditors and for any other audits conducted by governmental agencies or independent parties.

    •Participate in meetings and task force groups to integrate new practices into PI, ensuring the appropriate accounting policy and procedures are implemented

    •Work with Management team to develop, update and review in depth financial analysis related to cost savings initiatives, new programs, projects or business plans. Includes pro forma financial statements, Return on Investment (ROI) and other detail financial analysis.           

    •Perform due diligence procedures on new practices as necessary and ensure the appropriate purchase accounting in performed.

    •Analyze and distribute financial analyses and reports that identifies areas of improvement of operations with the objective to provide a financial perspective and analysis of the issues and/or unusual trends.

    • Participates in meetings and presents actual financial results as well as the analyses noted above that highlights areas of operational improvement. 

    •Perform all responsibilities in a manner that demonstrates appropriate behavior towards PI internal and external stakeholders. Perform operational tasks such as contract negotiations, implementing best practices, etc.

    •Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

    •Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills.

    •Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

    •Excellent computer skills, including spreadsheets and accounting software.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related business field required.
  • Minimum of seven years of related work experience required.
  • Minimum of two years managerial or supervisory experience required.
  • CPA/MBA or equivalent advance degree strongly preferred.
  • Public Accounting experience is preferred.
  • Strong ability to lead in the analysis, interpretation and implementation of accounting/regulatory pronouncements.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and other financial software packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
  • Person must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis
  • Strong knowledge of PI’s product offerings is preferred.
