Description
Purpose:
Assists in conducting therapeutic activity programs and documents resident's participation
Responsibilities:
- Lead small group activities under the direction of the Dementia Director.
- Report problems or resident needs using appropriate channels.
- Decorate unit in seasonally appropriate d?cor.
- Be aware of resident problems such as memory loss, behavioral issues, vision and hearing deficits.
- Ensure that activity equipment is appropriate, clean and well-maintained.
- Make visits to room bound residents unable to attend regular activities and complete appropriate documentation.
- Acceptance of the concept of strength-based activity programming.
- Assist Pastoral Care in delivery of services.
- Be aware of resident restrictions such as fluid restrictions, need for thickened liquids, special diets.
- Interact with residents on a 1:1 basis outside of the group schedule structure to enhance socialization and feelings of security.
- Attendance of general and dementia-specific in-services and educational opportunities.
- Complete necessary documentation of residents' participation in activities.
- Ensure access to appropriate activity supplies is available to residents outside of group structure (reading materials, puzzles, comfort/sensory items, etc).
- Minor transporting of residents to and from activities.
Qualifications
Successful completion of the UPMC Canterbury Place Program Training Module (including dementia-specific training).High school diploma or equivalent. Cheerfulness, creativity, initiative, reliability, flexibility, sense of humor, compassion and the willingness to work as part of a team.
