Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, is responsible for the planning and performing duties in cooking, preparing and dispersing a wide variety of main courses, vegetables, starches sauces and special foodstuffs for patients, retail areas, catering, and other points of service.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizing proper service ware appropriately, pans/portions all products in a manner that is appetizing.
- Carries out job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the service management vision of UPMC McKeesport which includes the demonstration of appropriate behavior toward patients, visitors, staff, peers and physicians.
- Notify Operations Manager/Supervisor of any food item shortages in sufficient time to make necessary adjustments to menu.
- Assist in the training of new employees.
- Observe sanitary regulations in handling and preparing foods and keep work area clean.
- Following daily production sheets, completes all hot production.
- Retrieve, handle and store all products properly according to HACCP guidelines.
- Accurately perform the duties of the assigned position within designated time period.
- Product is prepared following standard recipes using proper HACCP techniques.
- Break down leftover food items and store properly.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one and a half to two years prior institutional/restaurant cooking experience is an asset.
- Required knowledge in the use of most types of cooking equipment.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- ACHD or Serve Safe Food Certification preferred.
