Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, is responsible for the planning and performing duties in cooking, preparing and dispersing a wide variety of main courses, vegetables, starches sauces and special foodstuffs for patients, retail areas, catering, and other points of service.


  • Utilizing proper service ware appropriately, pans/portions all products in a manner that is appetizing.
  • Carries out job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the service management vision of UPMC McKeesport which includes the demonstration of appropriate behavior toward patients, visitors, staff, peers and physicians.
  • Notify Operations Manager/Supervisor of any food item shortages in sufficient time to make necessary adjustments to menu.
  • Assist in the training of new employees.
  • Observe sanitary regulations in handling and preparing foods and keep work area clean.
  • Following daily production sheets, completes all hot production.
  • Retrieve, handle and store all products properly according to HACCP guidelines.
  • Accurately perform the duties of the assigned position within designated time period.
  • Product is prepared following standard recipes using proper HACCP techniques.
  • Break down leftover food items and store properly.



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one and a half to two years prior institutional/restaurant cooking experience is an asset.
  • Required knowledge in the use of most types of cooking equipment.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ACHD or Serve Safe Food Certification preferred.
  • Act 34
