Manages the strategic development, planning and implementation of initiatives and activities required to enable the Department of Neurology to realize its mission. In support of these strategic initiatives, the tactical responsibility of maintaining and nurturing existing audiences, cultivating and developing new markets, generating and producing collateral materials in all media and managing internal, external and community relationships will also be required. In addition, the Manager will manage and grow the alumni component for the department to include the cultivation, retention and tracking of all alumni. Performs direct daily supervision and work performance of all departmental administrative support personnel, as well as the recruitment and hiring of any additional support as needed.


  • Work closely with the Chairman to develop, plan, and implement the strategic initiatives and activities of the department to achieve all current and future goals.
  • Provide management and implementation of targeted marketing strategies as well as the development and oversight of all collateral materials to internal and external audiences. Develop, maintain and administrate the Department of Neurology's overall marketing strategy. Act as primary liaison to UPMC Corporate Communications and Media Relations departments. Ensure all quality, content and design of all marketing related materials.
  • Develop an alumni program that will engage former students in special events, departmental activities, while building a donor base.
  • Oversee the administrative team to ensure that all organizational objectives are met. Provide administration and supervision of administrative staff to ensure effective, professional and efficient work relationships consistent with the mission of the department. Appraise and direct staff regarding program updates, progress, and activities.
  • Document all departmental programs and activities in the form of photographic records, evaluation reports and testimonials where and when appropriate.
  • Prepare budgets, achieve performance goals and measure metrics for all programs within realm of responsibility.
  • Develop, direct and implement communications strategies for internal and external audiences in support of the Department of Neurology. Oversee the production, quality and purpose of the organization's newsletter, annual report, collateral materials and other forms of member communication.
  • Assess marketplace for new business and clinical program opportunities in tandem with the Executive Administrator.
  • Benchmark competition in academic as well as practice marketplace.
  • Develop, manage, and supervise special events, professional meetings and academic programs.
  • Cultivate, retain and track all alumni through sponsored events, advanced planning and strategic marketing.
  • Create a data-driven infrastructure to capture and analyze information to better identify and engage donors, nurture stewardship and drive the strategic objectives of the Department.
  • Act as primary liaison for the Department of Neurology and other key community players and stakeholders to achieve all current and future goals. Develop mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships with the technology, corporate and foundation communities.*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.*Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Master's degree in business, public administration or in a health-related field is preferred. 
  • Bachelor's degree AND 10 years experience in a position with program management responsibilities required.
  • OR Bachelors Degree and 5 years supervisory experience in the field of administrative support is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven mastery of basic marketing principles including marketing plan and ad campaign development, collateral material development, public relations; understanding of media relations including print, television, radio, etc.
  • Exposure to, or experience with, academic institution and/or administration preferably in a health-related field.
  • Considerable experience in event planning, direct mail, and grant development.
  • Credibility across public, private, academic and community sectors.
  • Proven ability to engage strategic social partnerships recognizing the social and academic needs of both.
  • Passionately committed self-starter able to craft dynamic programs to further the image and reach of the Department.
