Description
Purpose:
Identifies the educational needs of the nursing staff and implements inter-functions to ensure that the nursing staff has the necessary clinical competencies. The effectiveness of the manager's role is measured by its impact on the quality of patient care. Establishes goals for clinical staff education programs.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and evaluate Staff Education employees.
- Identify learning needs related to patient care delivery and competency management.
- Maintain and direct staff education programs for Patient Care Services Personnel including orientation, continuing education, and inservice programs.
- Assist management staff with development of competency validation processes.
- Develop and maintain budget for Staff Education Department and School of Nursing Assistants.
- Evaluate educational outcomes.
- Participate in teaching nursing related functions to other hospital personnel which includes compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with nursing and hospital leadership to achieve strategic goals.
- Comply with established hospital policies and procedures consistent with the mission and vision of UPMC McKeesport.
- Direct the UPMC McKeesport School of Nursing Assistants, interview and instruct students during 4 course sessions per year.
- Supervise, evaluate, and document skill competency for patient care personnel during orientation and for specified individual learning need resolution.
- Participate in information system development, education and implementation in relations to patient care.
- Assist in maintaining standards of regulatory agencies (i.e., JCAHO, PA Department of Health, OSHA, etc.).
- Participate on system, hospital and nursing committees.
Qualifications
BSN required. Masters degree preferred. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, staff, patients, co-workers and interdepartmentally. Excellent customer service and CQI skills.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
