We are currently hiring a Weekend Professional Staff Nurse to support the Oncology at our Oakland location.  5800 is a 28-bed medical and surgical oncology unit caring for a variety on oncology patients but specializing in gynecological cancer treatments and surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, mastectomies, Syed implants, and free flap/TRAM flap transplants. Many of our patients are admitted to receive chemotherapy, and some may require chemo desensitization. On our unit, we work with negative pressure rooms, disability/bariatric rooms featuring motorized lifts, and telemetry monitors. We consider strong teamwork to be central to our success on 5800 and vital to caring for our patients, and we boast a staff with a wide range of experience. 

This position will work: wekeends, rotating 12-hour shifts either 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement;  Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Six months experience is required for Professional Staff Nurses. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.  
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.  
  • Practices solid communication skills and can articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. 
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. 
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.  

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum six months experience required.
  • BSN preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
    • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
