UPMC Community Medicine Incorporated (CMI) is hiring a full-time Project Manager for Physician Network Development on the team. You will focus on physician recruitment for the primary care network for CMI.  Initial contact and interview with candidates and directing to appropriate CMI administrator for consideration and assisting as needed with securing them; working to help build network/pipeline of candidates with various med schools; also, will assist as needed with special projects with CMI Leadership Team.   

he ideal applicant would have experience with sourcing, physician recruitment, networking with schools, residency programs, and conferences. You will create, develop, and manage diverse proactive pipelines of recruitment talent through strategic sourcing and networking. Ability to work with the executive team to help continue Life Changing Medicine for CMI.  Strong project management skills. 

Provide internal direction, leadership, and accountability for project management efforts among the Corporate Strategy and Physician Acquisition Departments. Define project objectives and measures to be tracked, develop, and maintain detailed project plans.

Responsible for Physician and Provider recruitment for designated specialties including initial physician contact, sourcing, vetting, interviewing, and presenting pre-qualified candidates to meet client needs and expectations.  Researches, identifies, recommends, and utilizes the most effective recruitment and attraction strategies including sourcing, marketing/advertising, social media, networking, relationship building, direct recruiting, etc.  Collaborates with leadership including System Directors, System Medical Directors, and physician practice leadership to develop and monitor recruitment plans and strategies to achieve required staffing levels. Physician Recruiter is responsible for hiring physician candidates in a variety of specialties that meet all key aspects of the position including training requirements, clinical experience, certifications, and all other credentialing and hiring requirements.  Provides guidance on physician recruitment and selection policies, procedures and employment laws to candidates and hiring managers.  The Physician Recruiter will conduct online searches, query databases and verify licensure to vet candidates for consideration.  Serves as an ambassador for the new physicians and candidates by being a liaison between the physician and Division.


  • Oversee and project manage the pipeline of physician practice acquisitions throughout the system. Maintain a comprehensive listing of all active and potential transactions, track, and document status of each applicant, and manage Confidentiality Agreements and Professional Liability Forms for each acquisition. Ensure pre-close documents are signed, received, and catalogued
  • Engage with and discuss the transaction process with the physicians and their agents to help progress the process in a timely manner.  Maintain a filing system for legal requirements and reference. Support other parts of the transaction process as needed: pro forma statements, data compilation, post-execution integration activities
  • Serve as a collaborative partner with UPMC Central Pa peers in updating weekly acquisition status reports for the Physician Strategy Group.  Serve as liaison with MGMA for all UPMC membership requests, and renewals.  Develop and maintain detailed project plans, this includes utilizing standard project documentation and methodology and project tracking and reporting procedures
  • Provide concise and timely status reporting as required.  Assist team members in resolving project problems, escalates issues when necessary, and facilitates decision-making.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, health care, management, or related business field required.
  • Eight (8) years of related work experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in health care, with an emphasis on physician network development preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Access, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Project, and other pertinent computer software packages.
  • Strong management, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.  
  • Excellent Project Management skills along with effective planning and organizational skills. Ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to providing services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
