UPMC is hiring a full-time Medical Informatics Analyst to work Daylight hours Monday - Friday, with no weekends or holidays required!

Location: Cardiology Admin, UPMC Williamsport Hospital. May provide coverage, on occasion, to UPMC Lock Haven and UPMC Muncy.

Purpose:


Responsibilities:

 

  • Escalate issues and concerns in a timely manner to assure that projects are completed on a timely basis.
  • Provide primary level support for Clinical Business Intelligence in Medical Management applications.
  • Assume lead responsibility for project management as requested.
  • Research technical and application issues/errors and work in collaboration with the IT department to identify resolutions. Create and document a quick reference guide for common issues and errors to facilitate resolution. Participate in mandatory training as requested.
  • Assist with the evaluation and documentation of client needs/business processes both operational and financial, including current process analysis and proposed revisions to optimize business processes.
  • Perform follow-up activities with clinical leadership to assure progress during each phase of development.
  • Document specifications for system enhancements on the appropriate forms, electronically communicate completion.
  • Develop or maintain project plans as required.
  • For all products, proactively communicate and collaborate as part of a project team with external and internal stakeholders to analyze information needs and requirements and participate in the development of the following as needed: Business requirements, functional requirements, implementation requirements, quality of service requirements, use cases, and workflows.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures and standard operating guidelines related to software and hardware systems.
  • Assist with user documentation and training as requested.
  • Assist with quality of information through business case and application level testing; validate test results to initial business needs.
  • Review application software releases, assist with system testing and triage of enhancements prior to formal user testing, validation and sign-off, and facilitate release implementation.
  • Participate in development of new clinical products and programs and associated system modifications.
  • Work effectively with clinical management, end users, and IT analysts and leadership to gather and analyze technical requirements and ensure clarity of specifications.
  • Engage in development process. Participate in all aspects of the development process including planning, review and retrospectives. Assist with the development of the creation of user stories based on understanding of project and requirements.
  • Meet deadlines and turnaround times set by the Chief Medical and Innovation Officer (these deadlines and turnaround times may, at times, require the employee to work until project completion, meaning extended daily work hours, extended work weeks, or both).

 

Qualifications

Minimum of bachelor's degree in business, mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or a related field; master's degree preferred. Extensive related experience will be considered. Minimum of four years experience in database management or information systems. Experience in health care insurance or clinical health care is preferred, but those with relevant experience in other industries will be considered. Experience and familiarity with health industry coding systems including ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS are preferred. Knowledge of medical vocabulary is preferred. Superior computer skills are a given, with expert knowledge in Access, Excel, SQL, Oracle, and Microsoft Office products. The person must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm, and initiative on a daily basis. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must. Will need to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences. Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position, with demonstrated competency in customer orientation and the ability to deal with ambiguity. Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Advanced computer skills. Ability to interpret, summarize and document results of various system enhancements in a comprehensive detailed manner. Ability to effectively approach problem-solving. Ability to re-engineer processes to improve timeliness and accuracy. Well-informed and conversant with general business, insurance, and clinical matters.
