Description

Purpose:
The Senior Director of Operations of Medical Oncology is responsible for the leadership and management of all operations within Medical Oncology sites in the network for the UPMC Cancer Centers. Responsibilities include the management of operations, continuing education, quality assurance/CQI, physician support and operations, and front end revenue cycle operations. The Administrator identifies opportunities to improve patient safety and participates in projects and programs designed to reduce errors, improve processes, and to create a mindfulness culture for patient safety.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Sets standards for professionalism, productivity, and efficiency. 
  • Encourages creativity and works through staff to get the job done.
  • Assesses personnel and equipment needs and makes recommendations for changes based on fact and financial return.
  • Conducts regularly-scheduled site meetings and keeps staff well-informed and answers questions without delay.
  • Establishes performance improvement and CQI strategies, using PDCA and the 7 step process.
  • Provide effective financial oversight of all sites by balancing expenses against budget.
  • Manages effectively through others by establishing predetermined goals and objectives.
  • Utilizes techniques for inspecting results in a consistent and reportable manner
  • Utilizing a 'shared governance approach works collaborative with directors, managers, and staff in the operations of all sites.
  • Utilizes effective communication techniques with customers, staff, management, physicians, and senior leadership in daily operations.
  • Coordinates and assists in the recruitment of physicians (including contract negotiation), staff and function as key contact in integration of new groups to BU. Where appropriate, this includes due diligence, evaluations, etc.
  • Oversees the site QA program and establishes meaningful, measurable QA programs.
  • Identifies patient flow and operational efficiencies and standardize across network
  • In partnership with clinical administration, ensures all aspects of network practices are compliant.
  • Coordinates the operations of all UPMC Cancer Center-Medical Oncology sites.
  • Monitors operating statistics and patterns to identify trends and changes across sites as well as the external environment.
  • Maintains a current in-depth knowledge of resource-based value scales (i.e. physician productivity) and their impact on operations. 
  • Through positive leadership techniques influences and oversees management team and staff.
  • Develops/Implements/Administers network policies and procedures to standardize quality patient care at each site.
  • Manages fairly and consistently.
  • Produces high quality work in a timely fashion to meet established deadlines. Work is accurate and substantiated by fact.
  • Implements or coordinates training programs to meet the needs of the staff.
  • Supervises and oversees budget development, including operational and capital budgets.
  • Responsible for operating each site to budgeted fiscal goals.
  • Monitors and analyzes financial performance, including profitability and volume metrics. Implements appropriate changes to increase efficiencies, enhance revenue, and control expenses.
  • Maintains FTE's at budgeted levels or can justify increases/decreases based on site volumes.
  • Maintains supply and total expenses at budgeted levels or can justify increases/decreases based on site volumes.
  • Oversees billing and revenue capture initiatives.
  • Oversees new construction, renovation projects, and business utilization. Assess existing needs and plans for new programs to meet the site's needs.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in health care or equivalent
  • 5-7 years of progressive management experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary.
  • Oncology experience, preferred
