UPMC Medicare Operations Department is seeking a Product Specialist!

Medicare Product Operations is a highly collaborative department with a nice balance of individual contributor tasks and shared team responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of the team. The team is composed of strong employees who enjoy working independently but who are also willing and eager to assist and help others to accomplish the team’s goals. With our Medicare Product options changing every year, Product Operations is an exciting place to be.

Strong Preferences:

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Copy editing and/or quality review experience
  • Project and timeline management is a plus
  • Some level of Medicare knowledge preferred
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, word processing programs
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams
  • Technical skills with basic logic statements and using templates

Currently, this role is remote. But, could return to occasional in-office work as needed. The office location is the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh. 



  • Work with a variety of functional areas within Health Plan and System to assist in the creation and implementation of new products.
  • Communicate effectively all issues that impact daily and ongoing operations.
  • Input on group contract write-ups and initiatives.
  • Assist on coordinating the cost benefit analysis on proposed initiatives.
  • Update the Healthy Living Rewards vendor directory semi-annually.
  • Evaluate the impact new Federal and States mandates have on new and existing products.
  • Communicate all market intelligence information to Marketing Staff to ensure the understanding of competitive threats and issues on a weekly basis.
  • Track and document all Market Intelligence and Competitive Information.
  • Evaluate the impact of new federal state mandates.
  • Meet deadline as set by executive staff.
  • Attend continuous education classes to increase knowledge in the health care industry.
  • Solicit and update additional members within the healthy rewards program.
  • Assist on the analysis and reporting of product financials, product costs trends, and key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate all regulatory mailings, sales tools, summary of benefits, schedule of benefits, product and rate filings and handbooks.
  • Submit weekly report to Manager Product Management & Development that outlines all activities and meetings.



  • B.S. degree in Business Administration or Marketing
  • OR 4 years experience in health insurance, product development, or product management will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Two (2) years experience in insurance or medical environment.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office including: Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel and Access Software packages.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with various levels of staff throughout the corporation and be multi-task oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to supervise and direct projects as needed.
  • Team player.
