Public Relations employees are the gatekeepers to news and updates across the UPMC system. The team works with multiple internal sources to inform the public of UPMC’s mission in a positive, reliable, and trustworthy way.
All Summer Interns work towards the common goal of operational and clinical success at UPMC. The program uses a recruit once, hire twice philosophy to bring top entry-level talent to UPMC. This summer internship could lead to a full-time position with UPMC after graduation. This is a paid internship (approximately $12-14/hour).
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the digital newsroom (www.upmc.com/media) using a content management system
- Assist in writing and/or creating media advisories and press releases
- Assist with pitching and reaching out to local, regional, trade, and national media to promote UPMC stories as needed
- Attend on-site media events that take place throughout the UPMC system
- Shadow media relations team members at on-site media shoots
- Assist videographers with on-site media shoots/interviews
- Provide general team support in a wide variety of “beat” areas
- Assist with posts for UPMC News social media channels
- Assist with media coverage reporting
- Present to senior leadership
- Represent UPMC internally and externally
Qualifications
- Current Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a target graduation date between December 2022 and Spring 2024 required
- Availability to participate as a Summer Intern full-time from June to August 2022 for approximately 11 weeks
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field is required
- Demonstrated leadership ability through coursework, employment, or extracurricular activities is preferred
