COVID-19 Vaccination Information

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Commitment Specialist WPH | Western Psychiatric Hospital



Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a Commitment Specialist who will coordinate the involuntary commitment process for assigned inpatient units.


  • Track all admissions to the inpatient service and review for accuracy.
  • Track all admissions to assigned inpatient units and review for accuracy.
  • Complete voluntary consent forms and involuntary petitions according to regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all involuntary commitment petitions for extensions are logged and filed on time.
  • Review commitment court orders for accuracy and notify Coordinator Commitment Process of discrepancies.
  • Act as an information resource to clinical staff regarding the involuntary commitment process, which may include regulatory requirements and the PA Mental Health Procedures Act.
  • Ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained throughout the hearing process and that patients' rights are not violated with regard to the involuntary commitment process.
  • Communicate with Coordinator Commitment Process, attending Psychiatrist and unit charge nurse when problems associated with the involuntary commitment process arise that could jeopardize the legal status of a patient or continued hospitalization.


  • Associate Degree/Bachelor's Degree preferred, with at least 1 year behavioral health experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of PA Mental Health Procedures Act preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Customer service skills are essential.
  • Computer keyboard skills required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
