Description

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Initiatives Clinical Manager supporting CHC clinical programs and initiatives.  This is a hybrid role with an onsite presence required in Pittsburgh approximately once per month.

Community HealthChoices (CHC) is Pennsylvania's managed care long-term services and supports (LTSS) program serving seniors and individuals with physical disabilities in the Commonwealth who are covered by Medicare and Medicaid. This position, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, CHC, will provide support for key clinically-related programs, initiatives, and project management efforts led by the CMO and other physicians of the Community HealthChoices product line of UPMC's Insurance Services Division. This role primarily involves successfully advancing clinically related initiatives and programs focused on enhancing the clinical status of both aligned and unaligned members and supporting the clinical efforts of this physician team.

The ideal candidate for this position is a highly-engaged individual with proven strategic initiative and business management skills, and who has a critical-thinking and problem-solving mindset. The Strategic Initiatives Clinical Manager must be able to develop and maintain effective partnerships throughout the organization and work well in a team-oriented environment. The ability to work well under pressure and a strong project management skillset is essential to this role.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with CMO and physician team to identify clinical improvement opportunities and support the design and implementation of initiatives to address them.
  • Closely partner with other members of CHC team in resolving challenges when necessary and facilitating decision-making.
  • Support identification of key outcomes metrics and partner with analytic staff to evaluate and track.
  • Support physician efforts to address clinical process improvement opportunities across departments and with external partners, such as personal assistant agencies.
  • Develop, often through partnership with other CHC team members, dashboard indicators in CHC to ensure adequate monitoring of identified efforts.
  • Provide concise and timely status reporting of key initiatives as required.
  • Supports the CMO in facilitating communication among/between medical leaders.
  • Under the direction of the CMO, manages the medical education portfolio designed to close gaps in knowledge in clinical effectiveness, compliance, and best practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or related business field required. Clinical degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of related work experience required.  Clinical background/experience preferred.
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and other pertinent computer software packages.
  • Strong management/collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills (oral, written, and visual) are required.
  • Project Management skills along with effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects and manage all tasks necessary to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
  • Knowledge of process development, evaluating existing processes, and improvement approaches.
  • Strong preference for business process experience
