Description

University of Pittsburgh Physicians Division is currently hiring a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support is Maternal Fetal Medicine office located at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital in Oakland/Pittsburgh, PA! This position will work a Monday - Friday schedule with four 10-hour shifts per week. 

Purpose:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist coordinates and provides assessment, care, and instruction to patients of the Maternal Fetal Medicine practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide continual, consistent care to patients on medication that needs to be closely monitored, i.e. Heparin, coumadin, insulin.
  • Complete assessments of patients using the current prenatal form.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of Maternal-Fetal Medicine principles, physiology and pathophysiology of high risk pregnancies.
  • Evaluate and assess each patient with each outpatient visit.
  • Round on hospitalized patients and send appropriate correspondence.
  • Review charts of the scheduled patients for accuracy and completeness.
  • Administer medications in compliance with institute policy when necessary.
  • Conduct accurate and safe telephone triage.
  • Recruit patients for research when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the research process.
  • Work closely with all personnel regarding course of outpatient treatment
  • Review and assess all laboratory values for all patients.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the MFM office.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required and 3 years of current clinical experience in an OB setting required;
  • OR 7 years of current clinical experience in an OB setting.
  • Strong knowledge regarding principles, physiology and pathophysiology of high-risk pregnancy required.
  • Basic computer skills required along with demonstrated leadership and problem solving ability.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal effectively with patients, families and members of the health care team, supervise assigned staff and provide empathy to patients in need.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
