UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

The Medical Equipment IT Specialist (MEITS) performs repairs, installation, inspections, and preventive maintenance on IT based patient related medical devices used throughout UPMC. The Medical Equipment IT Specialist (MEITS) works under general supervision and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. Provides technical support, orientation, and training to all other levels of technical staff and equipment operators. This position works 7:00am to 3:30pm with flexibility to adjust hours according to needs. Some overtime may also be required. The Medical Equipment IT Specilist will have to travel throughout UPMC to support IT activities and there is limited work from home avalible after the orientation period.  

Responsibilities:

  • Understand, implement, and provide training on specific regulatory requirements.
  • Priority Class 'Specialty' Equipment includes but is not limited to:: Nuclear camera, CT scanners, cath lab systems, dialysis, anesthesia, ventilators, sterilizers (steam and ETO), gas plasma sterilizers, tunnel washer, lasers, MRI, linear accelerator, perfusion equipment, surgical endoscope repair, system installations and relocations, diagnostic software support, clinical application and mapping systems.
  • Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Kronos system.
  • Provide technical hands on, remote, and phone support related to all technical staff levels.
  • Participates in on-call rotation as indicated by director.
  • Maintain data privacy and security of computer based networked medical devices where applicable.
  • Provide project management support for system installation, and integration initiatives.
  • Provide equipment application support to equipment operators as required.
  • Able to supervise all levels of technical staff if required.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspection and repair on Medium, High and Specialty priority types of medical equipment.
  • Priority Class `Medium Equipment includes but is not limited to: Patient monitoring systems, video equipment, warmers (blood and fluid), scope washers, lab equipment (analyzers), oximeters, infusion devices, diagnostic test equipment (pulmonary), NIBP units, humidifiers, oxygen equipment (respiratory), nerve/muscle stimulator, Doppler, computer work stations, pumps, tourniquets, SCD, hypothermia, EKG machines, ultrasound (PT), OR tables, OR lights and sonics, rongeurs, needle holders, general imaging/radiology equipment. Priority Class 'High' Equipment includes but is not limited to: ESU, ventricular assist devices, nursery incubators, pacemakers, thermocyclers, spectrophotometer, portable bypass system, injectors, muse system, defibrillator, ultrasound (diagnostic), x-ray imagers, x-ray portables, x-ray processors, x-ray tables, x-ray TV systems, Cranes-Buckys, scope sterilizers, washer decontaminators, cart washers, orthopedic specialty instruments, servers and gateways.
  • Travel between UPMC sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc is required as needed.Use personal vehicle may be required.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical/Electrical/Computer/ IT Information Technology, BMET Apprenticeship Certification or Journeyman papers (if applicable) is required
  • Equivalent military experience and/or equivalent hospital or manufacturers service experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Five (5) years of hospital or manufacturers service experience
  • Manufacturers Certification of two (2) priority types of Specialty equipment
  • Superior knowledge of information systems, networking, computer, server management, storage hardware and network security
  • Superior computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System and common office software incluidng but not limited to MS Office
  • Basic knowledge of DICOM and HL7 communications
  • May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored
  • No contact with the medications is allowed.
