Project Analyst - Center for Social Impact


UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Project Analyst to support the Center for Social Impact. This position will work standard daylight hours, Monday through Friday. This position can work fully remotely or in a hybrid structure in the office located in downtown Pittsburgh's US Steel Tower. Occasional statewide travel will be required, therefore, preference will be given to candidates located in Pennsylvania. 

The UPMC Center for Social Impact was established to provide coordination and leadership to initiatives focused on identifying and addressing and social determinants of health (SDOH). Social Impact is comprised of a small, cross-disciplinary team that is committed to improving health and social outcomes for UPMC members and the broader community, particularly those groups that are disproportionately affected. Our primary functions are to establish a social impact strategy that guides the long-term SDOH vision across the UPMC Insurance Services Division; develop, launch, and evaluate pilots for underserved populations, often in collaboration with public and community-based partners; identify and advocate for socially responsible investments and spending; and support evaluation and dissemination both internally and externally. 

The Center for Social Impact is situated within the UPMC Center for High-Value Health Care (the Center), a non-profit research organization, housed within the UPMC Insurance Services Division (ISD), which focuses on innovations including optimizing clinical programs and payment models across the UPMC integrated health care delivery and financing system and building an extramural portfolio of research that holds promise for achieving the triple aim of improved health outcomes, reduced cost, and enhanced patient experience. 

The Project Analyst reports to the Director of Operations and Evaluation and is responsible for supporting the program development, implementation and evaluation activities of the Center for Social Impact. The portfolio of work will focus on social needs such as housing, employment, food security, public benefits access, and reducing health and social disparities. This position will be responsible for monitoring, documenting, and reporting progress and performance for defined project objectives and measures as well as assisting in the development and maintenance of detailed project plans and deliverables. An ideal candidate will have experience supporting the implementation of health and human service programs and/or program evaluations, have a basic knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, be comfortable communicating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders both within and outside of UPMC ISD, and have a commitment to health and social equity. 



  • Conducts literature reviews and web searches, prepares summaries of relevant topics as assigned by Social Impact team. 
  • Supports the development of business plans, evaluation plans, grant and contract proposals, and associated reporting.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of Social Impact projects and evaluation activities including, but not limited to, business plan development, building an evidence base/rationale for programming, co-design methodology with partners, data collection/entry, managing contracts, and monitoring deliverables associated with projects, in collaboration with the Social Impact team.
  • Supports management and tracking of Social Impact portfolio of work (including housing, workforce development, services for special populations, food access, and other domains).
  • Participates in cross-departmental workgroup activities related to Social Impact initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of presentations, reports, manuscripts, and other project deliverables.
  • Communicate with members of UPMC management and staff regarding assigned projects
  • Assist in the development of business cases, work plans, communications, etc.
  • Maintain project documents within approved archival systems.
  • Generate necessary project documentation, including meeting minutes, project deliverables, etc.
  • Handle project administrative duties including scheduling requirements, SharePoint requirements, etc.
  • Advise supervising Project Manager and others of pending due dates.
  • Identify and help resolve potential issues and/or barriers that are critical to the success of a project.



  • B.A. degree and 2 years experience (preferred)
  • Masters degree highly preferred
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred
  • Basic understanding of, and commitment to addressing, social challenges and their impacts on physical and mental health, community health, and the health care system.
  • Experience with human services, public benefits, or public health preferred.
  • Technical skills: ideal candidates are proficient in Microsoft software, have experience managing and working with large datasets, GIS familiarity a bonus
  • Excellent computer skills required, including MS Office Suite Strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required Very well organized and deadline conscious.
  • Project Management knowledge and future potential to manage multiple projects required.
