Description

UPMC is seeking a Manager, Media Relations. This role will manage the media relations activities for a dedicated area.

Responsibilities:

  • Appropriately prioritize beat areas for media coverage to meet organizational goals.
  • Manage media crises in assigned areas.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in other SRCD departments.
  • Seek professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate with pertinent scientific and professional organizations to promote assigned areas.
  • Create, execute and evaluate media strategies for assigned areas.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, credible relationships with all appropriate regional, national and international media.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5 + years of experience in media relations, journalism or communications required.
  • Experience providing clients with strategic counsel. Experience in an academic medical center, hospital or health care industry is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to translate scientific/medical information to a lay person's understanding.
  • Sound news judgment and track record of identifying and promoting stories of interest to regional, national and international media.
