UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a full time Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing to support our Surgical Central Services department. UPMC Presbyterian’s Central Sterile department is a fast-paced, controlled environment. We process an average of 77,000 instrument sets per year! In this role, you will coordinate the daily operations of the department functions and assure instrument and equipment processing is running smoothly. You will supervise employees and serve patients and families as a resource to service problems or questions.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the manager ensuring quality of care of the Central Sterile Processing by implementing, communicating, and/or developing philosophies of standards of care; enforcing adherence to organization, departmental or outside, regulatory body requirements.
- Serve as a role model of excellent customer service by responding constructively to the needs of all those interacted with on a daily basis.
- Support the departmental goals of quality service, system improvement, and cost containment by contributing to the successful implementation of recommended departmental changes.
- Ensure a fully qualified and competent workgroup by coaching, scheduling, motivating, and assisting in the development of the employees in Central Sterile Processing.
- Participate in preparation of staff annual evaluation documents.
- Sterilize and process equipment/instruments by adhering to departmental standards, professional regulations, and policies and procedures.
- Practices solid verbal and written communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in unit practices. Documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal violence and impairment. Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyles.
- Plan for and complete growth oriented and developmental activities.
- Coordinate educational opportunities, both internal and external, to facilitate staff acquisition of knowledge and credits necessary to maintain any employee certifications.

Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent required.
- 3 years' experience in central sterile processing required.
- 2 years supervisory or team leader experience required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers, physicians, staff of other hospital departments, and outside contacts.
- Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician OR International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management
