UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Clinical Coordinator BH | Western Psychiatric Hospital

Description

Purpose:
The Clinical Coordinator BH will be a member of the Quality and Patient Safety Department at Western Psychiatric Hospital. They will assist with monitoring metrics and focus on prevention and education.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrate the distinctions in levels of care required.
  • Assists with debriefing staff after a crisis event.
  • Demonstrate effective use of patient acuity determination through delivery of clinical care.
  • Role Models effective patient care delivery. Covers for staff who have had an event so that they can have time off of the unit or be seen for medical for the situation. This includes covering the unit via observations, rounds and groups.
  • Demonstrate intermediate knowledge and understanding of mental health principles, psychopathology and physiology related to patient as part of their clinical care.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Services staff, helps formulate a comprehensive plan of care based on advanced assessment skills and knowledge gained through debrief and review of the situation.
  • Ascertain that clinical staff is knowledgeable regarding the clinical standards of practice.
  • Participate with Clinical Services in the adoption of programs and program enhancements.
  • Provide supervision to clinical staff.
  • Coordinate special administrative projects as requested.
  • Participate in institutional/UPMC committees as assigned.
  • Complete the responsibilities of the position accurately and efficiently.
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of management principles.
  • Ability to conduct clinical staff interviews when requested.
  • Identify both clinical and non-clinical needs or problems affecting clinical services and takes necessary action to resolve them through self initiation the Clinical Program staff and committees.
  • Demonstrate a system perspective in directing clinical activities.
  • Adhere to all applicable standards of care.
  • Adhere to management and supervisory competencies outlined in the UPMC Health System Performance Management Form.
  • Identify needs of staff and documents plans for meeting those needs.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Administration in planning and instructing unit specific in-service, orientation, and remedial learning interventions.
  • Participate in the collection and dissemination of research information and data.
  • Participate in research activities pertinent to the unit program.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with leadership, clinical staff, medical staff and ancillary staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Maintain competency requirements.
  • Works a flexible schedule including off shifts as needed.
  • Assists Clinical Staff with difficult patients; problem solve, behavior planning etc. to all the inpatient units.
  • Complete staff injury follow-ups as assigned.
  • Encourage staff to participate and assist with trainings like Advanced Response Training.
  • In collaboration with supervisor, Director of Quality and Patient Safety and the Culture of Safety Work Group and Safety Committee, focus on the workplace violence initiatives.
  • Assist with analyzing workplace violence incidents including patients and staff; support the RCA and event review process.
  • Assist with training and review of videos from incidents on the inpatient units.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a Human Services Field.
  • 5 years of Mental Health experience required.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Crisis experience preferred.
  • Work history that includes telephone triage as well as an in-depth knowledge and proven skill at doing psychiatric assessments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under conditions of potentially high stress and emergency situations.
  • Member of the ASAP Team and a Crisis Trainer required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
