UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

To plan, organize, coordinate, manage and direct the Magnet accreditation process for the Nursing Department. Provide leadership and accountability for the overall management and quality of patient care on designated nursing units



  • Fiscal Management Prepares an annual budget for anticipated expenses related to the Magnet project for the upcoming fiscal year. Designs and implement programs to support major organization objective of cost containment, productivity and other finical management efforts.
  • Leadership Acts as liaison between Medical Center and the Magnet ANCC office. Receives and responds to request for information or documents. Attends the Annual Magnet Conference Participates in Magnet mentoring activities: formal and informal Chairs the Magnet Steering Committee-Consisting of Force Leaders,Chairs and Co-chairs of the councils, Directors, and CNO Attends nursing/unit meetings (to update Magnet process), Council meetings, and any educational meetings pertaining to Magnet.
  • Human Resources Management Provides oversight to insure effective methods of assigned employees to assure continuity of qualified personnel and the achievement of assigned objectives/goals of a magnet status.
  • Clearly communicates expectations for documentation preparation, including structure, format, content organization, and timeline to all Force leaders, Council Chairs, and assisting staff. Collaborates with nursing management and education to plan educational programs Coordinates and schedules the Magnet appraiser's site visit Collaborates with nursing management and nursing councils in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research programs/protocols. Fulfills role of Nurse Manager on a designated unit when a Manager has an extended vacation or a leave of absence.
  • Demonstrates commitment to service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, timely, coordinated and thorough
  • Department Operations and Quality Improvement Completes nursing education and preparation prior to the appraisers' site visit. Establishes mechanisms and processes to ensure timely collection of accurate data. Participates on Patient Safety / Quality committee. Alerts nursing management/leadership of significant data variances. Reviews data to verify accuracy and reliability. Identifies opportunities to improve performance and outcomes. Edits the final document preparation, including structure, format, content, organization, and the timelines. Collects information and data for the interim annual report/summary. Completes the final report.



Master's Degree in Nursing Five years of progressive leadership experience which includes clinical nursing background Demonstrates effective leadership skills Possesses excellent verbal and communication skills Analytical, organizational and time management skills Problem solving and strategic thinking skills Displays initiative and creativity Team facilitation and collaboration skills Conflict resolution skills

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be within 90 days
