Description

Purpose:
This position is to support the Severe Asthma program, as part of the Pediatric Asthma Center within the division of Pulmonary Medicine at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Position will provide clinic support, care coordination and program management for the severe asthma program and support the Pediatric Asthma Center initiatives.  This role is Monday - Friday daylight.  Hybrid remote work is available for this role which is Monday - Friday daylight shifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Get to know all patients seen in the Severe Asthma Clinic (SAC) by attending the clinics with Drs. Forno and Larkin (4 half-day sessions a month); and establish relationships with these patients and families to help with communication and navigation of the medical system.
  •  Ensure that SAC patients understand their plan of care and asthma action plan.
  • Help arrange SAC follow-up visits, ensure patients attend, and follow up with those who miss appointments to understand and help solve any barriers to care.
  • Communicate with SAC families and pharmacies to ensure refills are being picked up/delivered as prescribed.
  • Teach SAC families about biologic options and be available to answer questions about the different drugs; help with insurance prior approval for biologics and other asthma medications; and keep a record of all patients on biologics.

Qualifications

  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients' requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Minimum 3 years nursing experience
  • BSN preferred.
  • Pediatric experience preferred 


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
