Description
Purpose:
Reports directly to the Manager, Transportation and Linen Services and ensures that the personnel transport patients in a safe, comfortable, and courteous manner to and from appropriate treatment centers and patient care units. Also provides direction for the efficient transportation of specimens, supplies, materials, mail, and equipment. This position supervises all transportation personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Be certain that the transporters are maintaining efficient and sanitary vehicles.
- Prepare and monitor transportation department payroll sheets and time cards.
- Evaluate and supervise the orientation of new transportation personnel and volunteers to insure maximum growth with sufficient information provided.
- Incumbent will conform to attendance policies
- Perform any supplemental duties requested by the Director, Manager, or Administration relative to the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of the department.
- Maintain communications with patient care unit, treatment center, central service, respiratory therapy, and laboratory supervisory personnel so that maximum efficiency of the department is achieved. Employee ensures that he/she will conduct himself/herself in a professional manner at all times.
- Knowledgeable of all safety, fire, evacuation, emergency care, and disaster policies and procedures.
- Provide proper scheduling for all assigned shifts.
- Supervise the reporting and clerical activities of transportation and dispatchers.
- Know and enforce general hospital policies with respect to the transporter, team leaders and dispatchers. Determine avenues of corrective action when abuse occurs.
- Supervise transporters and team leaders in the movement of specimens, patients, materials, supplies and equipment to and from assigned areas. Ensures that a handoff of medication occurs with the nurse.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma/GED required
- 3 years relevant experience required
- 1 year relevant leadership experience required
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
