UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Full-time Director, Communications Community Health to help support the Community Giving Operations. 

The Pittsburgh Study is a community-partnered research initiative to find out what works to help children and youth thrive. The Study will follow children in Allegheny County from before birth through high school. Our goal is to find ways to give children the support they need to achieve their academic goals and be healthy and thriving. Our hope is that by bringing together best practices and community assets, we will develop programs and policies to promote child health equity and improve children’s lives – in Pittsburgh and beyond.

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Community Relations for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and Division Director, Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics, Public Health and Clinical and Translational Science for UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Director of Communications identifies, plans and executes on-going communications strategies, programs and projects in support of UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation and UPMC Children's Hospital's mission and vision. Areas of responsibility include internal communications, strategic communications, media/social media relations, marketing/communications, marketing communications, and graphic design. Partners with UPMC communication, marketing, and media relations leadership; The Pittsburgh Study and Community Health leadership and community partners; and UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a strategy, brand and reputation check-point for all marketing, advertising and communication materials.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with UPMC and UPMC Children?s Hospital?s corporate clinical marketing initiatives as appropriate and/or proactively identify synergistic opportunities for increasing brand awareness for UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation, UPMC Children?s Hospital?s Community Health, The Pittsburgh Study, and increasing donors, revenue and awareness.
  • Demonstrates leadership in working across departments with other colleagues to cultivate creativity and problem solving, achieve quality and efficiency, and promote teamwork in support of departmental and foundation goals.
  • Demonstrates service-oriented behavior in interactions with clients and co-workers. Acts as a role model for service excellence toward patients, community partners, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops methods to evaluate communications projects based upon effectiveness and cost/benefit and documents results, regularly reporting on key metrics.
  • Independently manages the research, writing, design and production of any printed materials, videos and visual materials, and websites, monitors project budgets, handles approvals and other client relations and takes responsibility for accuracy and effectiveness of information communicated.
  • Leads the development, implementation and execution of strategic communications plans, including budgets, client interaction, creative development and staff and agency management.
  • Manages multi-faceted components of the strategic communications process, including supervision of internal staff, external marketing agencies or vendors and related staff associated with specific projects.
  • Oversees the execution of media and social media strategies in partnership with UPMC corporate communications.
  • Performs full spectrum of human resources management including performance and talent management, recruitment, on-boarding and employee development.
  • Prepares annual communications budgets and monitors and reports on variances monthly.
  • Provides oversight to marketing/communications function.
  • Serves as marketing communications consultant and advises leadership on marketing best practices.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Seven (7) years' experience in marketing or communications.Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience providing clients with communications counsel required.
  • Experience working in or with marketing agencies, particularly in a supervisory capacity, is required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Experience with community engagement and diverse communities required.
