Speech Language Pathologist, Senior, Full Time (Mercy)

Description

UPMC Centers for Rehab Services is currently hiring a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist, Senior. The candidate will work between 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. variable days including weekends and holidays by rotation. If this sounds like a good fit for you, we invite you to apply!


Provides Speech-Language Pathology assessment and treatment using advanced clinical skills in a specialty area of Speech-Language Pathology for patients referred to non-contracted and contracted facilities of Centers for Rehab Services. Serves as a clinical resource for other staff members. May have an individual agreement with an academic institution for instructional services. Participates in research conducted within UPMC Centers for Rehab Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Team Leader(s) / Assistant Facility Director(s) / Supervisor(s), Facility Director / Director, Rehab Services, or Program Coordinator in performance review process.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and in-service education programs.
  • Communicates patient?s status to the referring physician and other health care team members.
  • Completes necessary charge and statistical information to accurately reflect the service rendered to the patient.
  • Maintains professional license / certification through steady pursuit and participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development opportunities to satisfy requirements for licensure / registration renewal.
  • Maintains written documentation for all Speech Pathology services rendered including documentation of initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summary consistent with department standards. Co-signs CFY documentation per regulatory requirements.
  • May have an instructional agreement with an institution for academic purposes outside the scope of the clinical practice of UPMC Centers for Rehab Services.
  • May serve as Team Leader / Assistant Facility Director / Supervisor, Facility Director / Director, Rehab Services, or Program Coordinator in absence of the incumbent.
  • Participates in the organization?s clinical education program by providing clinical supervision of students completing internships from various universities as requested.
  • Participates as an instructor in professional or community education programs sponsored by the organization as requested.
  • Participates in program development. Serves on organizational committees as an active and contributing member as requested.
  • Performs appropriate diagnostic assessment, reassessment, and treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by a physician for Speech-Language Pathology services. Develops plan of care including goals and treatment plan in accordance with physician referral, nature of injury / illness and results of Speech Pathology assessment. Modifies or adjusts plan of care based on patient?s response to treatment and/or changes in patient?s status.
  • Provides verbal and/or written home instructions to patient and/or family members when applicable.
  • Rotates through selected treatment areas when necessary to facilitate organizational needs.
  • Schedules patients to achieve and maintain a level of productivity which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization while ensuring delivery of quality patient care.
  • Serves as an educational resource for management of patients with a variety of Speech, Language, Swallowing, and/or Cognitive disorders for junior Speech Language Pathology staff members. Promotes ongoing staff development through in-services and/or individualized instruction and support.
  • May participate as a Clinical Fellow supervisor providing clinical supervision of Clinical Fellows completing their CFY, if warranted.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • MS, MEd, OR MA in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in a specialty area preferred.
  • Previous clinical teaching experience preferred.
  • Program development experience and ability preferred. 


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS)Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
