Description

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a Lead Dietitian for our bariatric services program to provide counseling to patients interested in bariatric surgery or non-surgical weight loss.

This position is located at Magee Womens Hospital and Craft Place in Oakland (Pittsburgh).

You would work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. No nights, weekends, or holidays required!

This exciting position will support our growing Bariatric program which is one of the largest and best-know programs for weight loss surgery in the country. This position includes direct patient care as well as providing education in a class setting. You would be working in a collaborative environment with a multidisciplinary team of professionals who assist patients with weight management.

Purpose:
To provide a high level of nutrition-related expertise in the interdisciplinary team management of all hospitalized patients and to take a leadership role in facilitating department workflow and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
  • Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
  • Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
  • Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement.
  • Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Lead or participate in department-based Quality Process Improvement activities with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
  • Manages department programs/projects. Projects may include but are not limited to QI, Competency program, Department Software management, writing schedules and coordinating orientation of new associates.
  • Leadership role in facilitating changes within the department and coordinating daily workflow as needed, forwarding issues appropriately to Coordinator and Manager
  • Provides feedback/peer review as appropriate for associates in the Performance Review process including relevant supporting documents.
  • As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations, and other communications.
  • Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
  • Assumes duties of Dietitian Coordinator or Manager in their absence
  • Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care and provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
  • Attend at least one skill building education session on project development and/or administration annually.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics degree and 4 years clinical Nutrition experience as a registered dietitian required.
  • OR Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics and 2 years clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian required.
  • 1 year supervisory/program management experience preferred. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

  • Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration. Maintenance of registration as demonstrated by 75 CEU credits every 5 years.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintenance of PA-LDN as demonstrated by 30 CEU credits every 2 years.
