UPMC Health Plan Workpartners is seeking a Risk Control Safety Health Consultant for the Philadelphia region.

Reports to the Risk Control Manager. Delivers risk control services to clients in assigned territory. Provides technical advice and account information to underwriting business partners for risk assessment and analysis. Works on low to moderate complexity jobs with premium usually under $250,000 and low to moderate workers' compensation exposures. Autonomous, but still receives oversight and report review from managers.

Completely remote.  Although this role is work-from-home, the ideal location for the individual will be between Allentown and Scranton PA due to the clients local to that region. It is expected that this person will physically visit clients within Northeastern PA/ Northern New Jersey.



  • Conduct research for underwriters or clients on class of business, operations, OSHA issues, or any other technical subject requiring similar analysis.
  • Serve as resource to underwriting and claims departments.
  • Conduct loss control surveys/safety program analysis at client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in underwriting/risk selection.
  • Write technically detailed reports that provide a clear assessment of risk and clearly articulate recommendations.
  • Consult with clients on ways to control hazards in order to reduce or prevent injuries. Regularly influence clients to implement recommendations.
  • Analyzes loss information to identify causes and develop recommendations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging safety issues.
  • Maintain timely, relevant communications with the risk control manager.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with assigned underwriting and claims teams, the broker/agent community, other risk control staff, and with clients.
  • Analyze loss trends, recognize opportunities to provide risk control products and/or services which can help reduce losses.
  • Apply analytical skills to complete claims review.



  • BA/BS Occupational Safety and Health, Physical Science, or Risk Management earned from an accredited program from an accredited college or university required.
    • (Relevant experience in Field Loss Control will be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Two (2) years of field loss control or increasing levels of responsibility in related operations.
  • A high level of skill and competency in Microsoft Office Suite software, demonstrated project management skills and the ability to provide complex technical information and recommendations that are understandable and clear to all audiences with varied levels of technical knowledge.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and/or Graduate Safety Professional (GSP)/Associate Safety Professional (ASP)/Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Preferred.
