UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Description

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is ranked as one of the Top Ten Children's Hospital in the nation, earning Magnet recognition for nursing excellence and is also named one of the nation's Top 20 Children's Hospital's for Technology and Innovation.  

The Pulmonary Technologist performs pulmonary function tests as ordered by physicians in order to assist in the diagnosis of respiratory diseases. Performs technical and service duties necessary for the proper and continuing readiness of the Lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates and monitors pulmonary function equipment, making adjustments and calibrations as needed.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment according to established guidelines.
  • Reviews test results to insure accuracy.
  • Provides for and maintains professional growth, orients/precepts, attends and may teach classes.
  • Performs pulmonary function tests (explains procedures to patients, families), and prepares patients for the test.
  • Assists physicians with bronchoscopies

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required prior to expiration of temporary practice permit.
  • Respiratory therapists who receive their CRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC requirements.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist preferred.CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT)
  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
