UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Description

Are you a Registered Nurse (RN) near Harrisburg, PA looking for the next step in your career? Or are you an Oncology Nurse, passionate about Oncology, and looking for a fresh start? UPMC's 12 bed Med Op Oncology Unit is in need of a Professional Staff Nurse for their team. Positions on this team are extremely RARE. The unit has VERY LOW employee turnover. If you are looking to join a seasoned and dependable team, this is your position! Every nurse on this unit receives a lunch break and has a 3:1 patient ratio. This team was selected as Runners up for the Teamwork Award across all of UPMC this past year! If this all sounds like music to your ears, this is the position for YOU!

Hours: NO WEEKENDS! NO HOLIDAYS! Flexible Schedule! You will ultimately develop your schedule with the manager. You can choose from five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. Even choose a 9 hour shifts and a day with a shorter shift if you would like. This is a 40 hour work week tailored to you! Very rarely you could be asked to go to one of our other Central PA cancer centers to fill in and would receive float pay to do so.

Responsibilities:

  • Draw blood/labwork
  • Give patient Immunotherapy, Chemotherapy, Electrolytes, IV therapy, Injections, Antibiotics as ordered by physicians
  • Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and the quality of patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of cultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthy relationships. 
  • Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to effectively guide them through the episode of care as well as transition to another level of care and/or home.
  • Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor. 
  • Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
  • Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months experience
  • BSN preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred.

Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in PA, OH or NY required.

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
