UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Description

Purpose:
Provides health information in a timely, cost-effective manner to healthcare professionals and the patient/family population served by UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside through our own resources and via local, regional, and national library networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, design, implementation, and administration of Library policies, programs, and initiatives within the Hospital.
  • Contribute to the success of the Medical Library and promote the mission of the Hospital through identified critical behaviors.
  • Maintain good relationships with librarians and library networks in the North Hills, Western Pennsylvania, Middle Atlantic Region, and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine to provide comprehensive library services.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and coach project teams, preparing individual development partnership plans and providing feedback to other Directors as needed.
  • Manage all day-to-day Library activities.
  • Through professional expertise and guidance, is a resource to the Professional Staff, Hospital management, and employees as a consultant, liaison, and interpreter of policies, programs, processes, and regulatory guidelines/laws.
  • Manage all outsourcing activities and vendor relationships for the library.
  • Assist in the development of the library information management plan which incorporates short and long-term projects to meet the mission, vision, and goals of the Hospital and of the library.
  • Participate in teams to develop and implement various projects and initiatives within the Library and the UPMC System.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited program required.
  • Member of the Medical Library Association Academy of Health Information Professionals preferred.
  • 2 years of work experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in database searching (Medline), the Internet, and other computer-based resources.
  • Knowledge of current library software applications.
  • Proficient in the use of software programs such as Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with project management, program design, and program evaluation activities, including coaching staff, leading teams, developing work plans, conducting studies, developing communication, coordinating vendors, and implementing programs.
