Are you an experienced in Labor & Delivery or the NICU? UPMC has an opening for an Advanced Clinical Education Specialist (RN) in the Family Birth Center/NICU at UPMC Memorial in York, PA

The Labor and Delivery department is an LDRP model of OB Care. We have 3 Triage Rooms, 8 LDRP rooms, 2 C-section PP Rooms with 1 OR. 

The NICU is a Level II NICU with 6 beds and we keep 32-week gestation infants and greater.  We have a NICU medical director and NNPs for NICU newborn care and a PNP for normal newborn care.  Both L&D and NICU work together as the Family Birth Center staff under the Unit Director. The educator for this department would support L&D and NICU education.


Responsibilities:

  • The Advanced Clinical Education Specialist, has the authority, responsibility and accountability for delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process.
  • In collaboration with the health care team, the Advanced Clinical Education Specialist applies expert knowledge and skills to achieve staff, patient and organizational outcomes.
  • The Advanced Clinical Education Specialist must demonstrate the knowledge and educational skills necessary to assess, plan and provide the educational programs that are required.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. 
  • Serve as a formal and informal mentor for new staff members and mentor new preceptors to be successful in their role.
  • Serve as a resource/consultant for patients, nursing staff and other disciplines in area of specialty.
  • Participate in department-based Performance Improvement projects.
  • Mentors others in professional skill development (coaching, feedback, crucial conversations, etc.)
  • Facilitates orientation and general continuing education programs.
  • Utilize nursing process in teaching staff how to manage the care of patients including assessment, interdisciplinary planning, implementation, evaluation of patient care, teaching and discharge planning.Lead in the development of standards of nursing care and nursing policies.
  • Identify, communicate and respond to meet the learning needs of nursing staff.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate orientation and continuing education programs based on learning needs, clinical priorities and organizational resources. 

Qualifications

  • BSN required
  • MSN or Master's in related field or Doctorate preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Leadership and project management experience preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license.

CPR certification required, UPMC approved certification require

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Clearances must be dated within 90 days.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • STABLE Certification
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
