Description
Purpose:
To operate, maintain and repair Hamot HVAC systems, environmental control systems and refrigeration equipment throughout the Medical Center and facilities so that these systems will function at there optimum efficiency and in a manner to assure the comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Installs and maintains the hardware required for the energy management, security intrusion and access control systems on the Environmental Control Computer. Operates, programs and optimizes energy management software. Maintains effective communication with Shift Specialists, HVAC Technicians and other medical center personnel and records all pertinent information in log books and daily reports. Instructs and assists new employees in the proper repair and use of medical center equipment and facilities. Completes written work reports for the maintenance management system and preventive maintenance system, to include a description of work performed, repairs needed, repairs made, time, parts and material used on each piece of equipment. Informs supervisor of parts, materials, equipment and tools necessary to perform job functions. Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
- Installs, maintains, operates, repairs and modifies all refrigeration equipment, including blood banks, walk-in coolers/freezers, ice machines, chillers and air conditioning units. Installs, maintains, operates, repairs and modifies all environmental equipment which includes fans, blowers, pumps, heat recovery systems, hydronic systems, humidification systems and air distribution components. Performs air and hydronic balance needed to achieve system designs. Installs, maintains and repairs pneumatic controls, high and low voltage electrical systems and other control systems related to refrigeration or HVAC work. Performs all chemical tests and adjustments to chemical treatment systems for the cooling towers, condensers and boilers and hydronic systems, assuring the proper operation of biohazard and effluent pollution control systems. Records test results and corrective actions taken.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent with 2 years of formal technical education or documented equivalent.
- Five years experience in HVAC field
- May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored.
- No contact with medications is allowed.
- This position typically reports to Assistant Director, Physical Plant-HVAC, Plumbing, Mechanical & Building Automation Systems
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- EPA Certified Universal Refrigerant Technician
