Description
UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join their team of life-changers! The Pharmacy Technician provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by assisting with sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, medication filling, and medication distribution, as well as collecting medication histories for patients admitted through the Emergency Department . The Pharmacy Technician services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects level of education, experience, and manager discretion at time of offer. This position will work varying shifts including rotating holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities:
- Assist in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation and distribution of investigational and study drugs.
- Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting, and stocking practices.
- Consistently has the ability to work in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g. chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique.
- Accurately collect patient medication histories
- Ensure that all medications in all areas have been safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Comply with Federal and State laws such as HIPAA, regulations such as OSHA, and PBM contracting requirements such as FWA and CMS.
- Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
Qualifications
Pharmacy Technician, Associate
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
- Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
- Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
- Enrollment in a college program and in good standing
Pharmacy Technician, Intermediate
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent OR Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program AND one of the following:
- Two years of previous Pharmacy Technician experience
- Enrollment in good standing as a pharmacy student.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Maryland Pharmacy Technician License Required
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
