UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Senior Director, Lean Agile - Center of Excellence

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Director, Lean Agile to join our leadership team at the UPMC Health Plan.  As Senior Director, you will lead lean-agile transformation strategy. Aligned under the UPMC Insurance Services Division Executive Leadership, this senior leader will serve as a strategic, collaborative partner and is responsible for establishment and execution of the lean-agile transformation strategy, operations, and execution for UPMC Health Plans business areas, leading the Lean-Agile Center of Excellence (LACE). This position will work closely with senior leadership, executives, and stakeholders across IT, Product, Business, Operations and other key functional areas. It will be responsible for the development of agile ways of working standards, providing lean-agile training, aligning tooling to support agile ways of working, metrics, and driving business agility efforts across UPMC. This senior leader is accountable for ensuring that the transformation meets intended outcomes and will lead a team consisting of agile coaches, change champions, and LACE operations. This position will champion, evangelize and inspire the organization to continuously improve the way it plans, builds, designs, delivers and supports our products and services, leading by example.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Lean Agile Center of Excellence to promote the success of Agile transformation within ISD through engaging leaders and stakeholders, guiding the performance of coaches, release train engineers, and other change agents.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership, vision and approach on agile transformation at scale.
  • As a servant leader and change agent, lead a team of change champions, building and growing business agility competencies within ISD while role modeling UPMC values.
  • Provide deep knowledge of Agile principles and practices and the ability to transfer that understanding into practical and relevant behaviors, culture, practices, at all levels of the organization.
  • Own the Agile Training and Coaching strategy to align and provide training needed to support transformation efforts.
  • Influence and steer the strategy to enable better agile delivery capability and agile governance, reducing waste and shortening cycle times for efficiency.
  • Serve as an internal and external thought leader capable of coaching, influencing, and advising at various levels and contribute to growth of Agile leaders in various roles across the organization.
  • Fosters a culture of innovation by building strategic and collaborative relationships with key leaders across the organization.
  • Drive organizational alignment and awareness of key metrics such as Flow metrics.
  • Lead Communications and related activities for Agile Transformation efforts.
  • Lead and mature communities of practices and lean agile forums across the organization.
  • Facilitate relentless improvement by working closely with other functions to handle impediments exposed by the transformation in a timely manner.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 10 years experience.
  • 5 years of Agile delivery experience required. 10 years Agile experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of business and/or technology-related experience required.
  • 5+ years of people leadership/management experience required.
  • 8+ years of experience championing organizational change initiatives preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience implementing Agile principles and practices in different cultures and environments preferred.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
  • Direct experience teaching agile training courses.
  • Hands-on experience applying Lean-Agile methodologies at scale in a range of industry and technology spaces.
  • Demonstrates an ability to influence senior leaders and executives to promote and apply agile mindset within the organization.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • SPC certification.
