UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Description

Purpose:
UPMC Eye Center in Shadyside is hiring a full-time Opthalmic Technician.  The Ophthalmology Department continues to grow and expand daily. We offer over 11 sub-specialties in eye care and are on the cutting edge in research studies and trials. Our Ophthalmic Technician Career ladder offers room for growth within the department. 

 We will consider the career ladder, and the final title and pay will be determined by experience and certifications.   You will have Monday - Friday daylight shifts with some travel to satellite offices. Not only is this job challenging, it is very rewarding. Knowing that you are helping others on a daily basis and learning new, exciting things in the process is very exciting.  

Responsibilities:

  • Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
  •  History and patient in-take
  • In-office procedures/testing
  • Administrative duties as assigned
  • Maintaining office equipment/inventory

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred. Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred

Technician II 

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.  One year of ophthalmic experience required and COA certification, OR five overall years of ophthalmic experience.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
