UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Clinical Education Specialist -- Antepartum

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Clinical Education Specialist to support the High risk OB Antepartum and Postpartum departments! 2800 is a 28-bed high risk antepartum unit with a welcoming staff and a teamwork-focused environment. Our work includes non-stress tests, stent and cerclage placements, and wound debridement; we partner closely with the physician team to care for high risk pregnancies, preterm labor, C-sections, and methadone conversions, as well as delivered patients with infants admitted to the NICU and fetal demise mothers. Due to the nature of the unit, our patients can experience very high highs and very low lows, and are in need of uniquely compassionate attention and care; staff on 2800 must be empathic and stout of heart. 

This position will work mostly daylight with flexibility to interact with off-shift staff.
Hours and travel are subject to change based on business needs.

The Clinical Education Specialist, a professional registered nurse, has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for delivery of nursing education. The Clinical Education Specialist applies expert knowledge and skills to provide the educational support needed to achieve quality patient care outcomes. The Clinical Education Specialist must demonstrate the knowledge and educational skills necessary to assess, plan and provide the educational programs that are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunity for quality improvement to colleagues and management. Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care and identifies research issues or articles related to clinical specialty or areas of interest
  • Mentors staff for projects/EBP/research activities. Promotes best practice dissemination (presentations, publications, etc.)
  • Receive feedback and direction constructively. Serve as a formal and informal mentor for new staff members and mentor new preceptors to be successful in their role. Serve as a resource/consultant for patients, nursing staff and other disciplines in area of specialty.
  • Participate in department-based Performance Improvement projects. Demonstrate a high level of initiative, work independently, and establish priorities to meet department and organizational goals.
  • Facilitates orientation and general continuing education programs. Utilize nursing process in teaching staff how to manage the care of patients including assessment, interdisciplinary planning, implementation, evaluation of patient care, teaching and discharge planning.
  • Lead in the development of standards of nursing care and nursing policies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate orientation and continuing education programs based on learning needs, clinical priorities, and organizational resources.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the impact of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department and organization.
  • Apply creative and innovative strategies in problem solving to achieve desired goals.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. Extends trust by acknowledging the contributions of others; listens first, creates transparency in communications, confronts reality, and clarifies expectations.
  • Conveys information and ideas clearly through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.
  • Perform related duties as required

 

Qualifications

  • MSN or Master's in related field; if masters in related field required, BSN required
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
  • OB experience HIGHLY preferred
  • Relevant teaching experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • UPMC approved certification preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
    • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34 with renewal
