UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Description

Are you a Registered Nurse (RN) looking for an opportunity for advancement? Have you ever thought of nursing education? UPMC Lititz is looking for a RN Nurse Educator to join their smaller department/team in the Operating Room (OR).

Hours - Primarily dayshift. Make your own schedule! Salary position and flexibility in schedule whenever needed. Travel to other UPMC Central PA hospitals only will be needed once a month for team meetings, the host hospital is rotated each month. Travel Mileage reimbursment paid.


The Nurse Educator, a professional registered nurse, with expertise in the specialty, who has the authority, responsibility and accountability for delivery of nursing education, orientation, continuing education, and ongoing support for the nursing staff are the main objectives. 

The main job responsibilities as described by the hiring manager are as follows:

  • Complaince - Monitor and facilite annual department compliance with point of care systes, BLS, Fit testing etc.
  • Staff Orientation
  • Educational events such as but not limited to; contact hours training, in-services, speakers, annual competancies, winter seminar, teach courses if needed, and oversee the nurse residency for new GNs
  • Leadership/Admin side of role - Attend meetings with unit director, help give input on new policy and procedures as needed, Orientation, complete fire drills, and other duties as directed

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunity for quality improvement to colleagues and management.
  • Serve as a formal and informal mentor for new staff members and mentor new preceptors to be successful in their role.Serve as a resource/consultant for patients, nursing staff and other disciplines in area of specialty.
  • Participate in department-based Performance Improvement projects.
  • Improve knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs.
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative, work independently, and establish priorities to meet department and organizational goals. Obtain and maintain appropriate certifications.
  • Develops professional coaching and feedback skills.
  • Facilitates orientation and general continuing education programs.
  • Utilize nursing process in teaching staff how to manage the care of patients including assessment, interdisciplinary planning, implementation, evaluation of patient care, teaching and discharge planning.
  • Take a leading role in major hospital-wide projects.
  • Assume responsibility for complex assignments and view problems as challenges.
  • Apply creative and innovative strategies in problem solving to achieve desired goals.
  • Facilitates student experiences as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • BSN Required (BSN waived if MSN obtained in program not conferring BSNs)
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
  • Relevant teaching experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Clearances must be dated within 90 days of hire
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
