Description

Summary:

UPMC Eye Center Monroeville offers an environment that is unique from other practices. Situated in an outpatient facility rather than a large hospital setting, staff have access to free parking. Through the Ophthalmic Imager Career Ladder, the selected candidate will have extensive opportunities for career and compensation growth.  Monday - Friday daylight shift depending on patient flow. 

This highly specialized role will allow you to work alongside some of the field of Ophthalmology’s most respected physicians. As an Ophthalmic Imager, you will be a vital member of the department, using specialized equipment to perform imaging procedures necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye.  The final title will be determined by experience and certifications

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist physicians in documenting, diagnosing, and treating diseases of the eye, including color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, OCT angiography, retinal thickness analysis, slit lamp and gonio photography, visual field testing, external photos, and a-scans.
  • Explain imaging procedures to the patient and provide instructions during imaging.
  • Recognize problems or malfunctions of photographic, diagnostic, and related equipment versus patient media opacities. May assist in making minor adjustments and perform preventive maintenance in accordance with established procedures. Advises supervisor of malfunctions or problems affecting the accuracy and quality of scans or images requiring repair by vendor.
  • Participates in the collection of patient history and complete ocular workup such as visual acuity, ocular history, vital signs, intraocular pressure

 

Qualifications

Ophthalmic Imager I

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of ophthalmic/optometric experience required.

Ophthalmic Imager II 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of ophthalmic/optometric experience AND ophthalmic imaging/photography certification OR five (5) years ophthalmic experience required. Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
