Purpose:
UPMC Eye Center Oakland offers an environment that is unique from other practices. Through the Ophthalmic Technician Career Ladder, the selected candidate will have extensive opportunities for career and compensation growth.
Monday - Friday daylight shift depending on patient flow.
Responsibilities:
- Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
- Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions
- Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.
- History includes ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
- Lensometry: automated and manual
- Angle assessment & dilation of pupils
- Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
- Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields
- Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test
- Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
Qualifications
Ophthalmic Technician I $18.78 -$31.22
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred. Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
Ophthalmic Technician II $20.00 -33.20
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Minimum of 1 year of ophthalmic experience required and COA certification, OR 5 overall years of ophthalmic experience
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34
