Research Assistant III


Data processing and analysis of biological signals (e.g., psychophysiological, neural) collected from human subject research, including biosignals from laboratory and/or ambulatory passive sensing. Integration of signals from multiple modalities for processing and analysis (e.g., biological, behavioral, self-report, clinical). Coordination with other investigators or staff on data collection protocols, including assisting with oversight of quality control of biosignal data acquisition.

This position will involve working on a grant-funded project in collaboration with the University of Western Australia investigating emotion regulation processes in the lab and in daily life among adults with elevated depression and anxiety symptoms.  Data collected will include cardiovascular psychophysiology measures acquired during a laboratory protocol and an ambulatory protocol using passive sensing, in addition to clinical and self-report measures. This position will be responsible for processing and analysis of cardiovascular psychophysiology data, including artifact correction, computation of variables, and compiling files into databases. The position will primarily involve working with already collected data, but there may also be opportunities to assist with physiological data acquisition with research participants in related projects.

  • Process biosignal data (e.g., psychophysiological, neural) collected from laboratory or ambulatory passive sensing research protocols.  Specifically, this position will involve the processing of psychophysiological data, including artifact correction and analysis of cardiovascular (electrocardiogram) and electrodermal data, computation of variables, and compiling data into Excel or SPSS.
  • Assist with general data management tasks, such as data transfers or data backups
  • Keep accurate logs of status of data transfers, processing and analysis
  • Coordinate with other team members regarding data processing, analysis, and management.
  • Assist with piloting of study protocols (acquisition of physiological data with human subjects).


  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completed or currently enrolled in a Bachelors’ Degree in psychology, biology, neuroscience, computer science, data science, bioinformatics or related field
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages (e.g., excel, SPSS)

Preferred Experience

  • Working knowledge of research methodology, including study design and data acquisition
  • Prior related work experience in research setting or with data collected from a research protocol
  • Experience working with biological, neural, psychological, behavioral, or passive sensing data
  • Working knowledge of scripting or syntax creation for data processing or analysis
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 with renewal
